Winner of the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award in
2007 and last year BBC Music Magazine Award for best change
music disc, the Dante Quartet is one of Britain's finest
ensembles. Founded in 1995 at Prussia Cove in Cornwall,
the quartet chose Dante's name to reflect the idea of a great
journey of discovery. Renowned for its imaginative
programming and its emotionally charged performances, the Dante
Quartet is a regular guest at festivals and music societies
throughout the UK and abroad, broadcasting on Radio 3 and
recording for Hyperion. They are also quartet-in-residence
at King's College, Cambridge. Their latest CD, of Debussy and Ravel, has
attracted rave reviews, and later this year the quartet will appear at
London’s Wigmore Hall, Kings Place, Prague and the Netherlands.The
Dante Summer Festival in the Tamar Valley was launched in 2004

Tim Boulton
As viola player with the
Bellinger String Quartet, Domus piano quartet and the Raphael
Ensemble, Tim Boulton has performed, recorded and broadcast in
many parts of the globe. He has been Professor of Viola
and Chamber Music at Guildhall School of Music & Drama in
London for 17 years. Inspired equally by performing, conducting
and teaching, he is now based in Penzance while continuing to perform widely. As Director of Cornwall Youth
Orchestra and Consultant to Cornwall Music Services, he has initiated
a series of innovative projects with young people in Cornwall, including
partnerships with the Dante Quartet, BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and projects
with folk musicians from both Denmark and Sweden.

The
Cast,
Mairi Campbell (fiddle, viola, voice)
Francis (guitar) come from Edinburgh and have played together since 1992.Their repertoire includes their own songs, interpretations of the songs
of Robert Burns and contemporary writers, traditional songs from the
British Isles, and the fiddle and dance music of Scotland and Cape
Breton. They have made three widely acclaimed CD’s and won unexpected fame when their arrangement of the Robert Burns classic,
'Auld Lang Syne’, featured prominently in the 2008 hit film version of
‘Sex and The City’, and on the movie soundtrack. In 2007, Mairi was
voted ‘Scots Singer of the Year’, while LiveIreland.com declared her
‘Female Musician of the Year’. The Cast has appeared in Italy, Spain,
the US, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Ireland, Switzerland and Germany,
and at clubs, arts centres and festivals all over the UK. This year they
were invited to perform their own song arrangements with the Royal
Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Carl Davis.

Matthew Taylor
studied in Cambridge with Robin Holloway and in
Germany with Leonard Bernstein, with special encouragement from composers Malcolm Arnold and Robert Simpson. He has written
three symphonies, concertos, wind music, songs and seven string quartets, which
have been performed by orchestras and ensembles such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the
City of London Sinfonia, the European Community Chamber Orchestra and the
Delme, Allegri and Dante Quartets. Matthew Taylor’s music is published by Peters
Edition, and is currently writing a large symphonic work, a piano
sonata and a series of songs for string quartet and tenor.
