Church of St Mary,
Callington, 7.30pm

Dante Quartet with The Cast and
Dante Festival Orchestra

Traditional – Auld Lang Syne
Smetana – String Quartet no1, “From my Life”
Shostakovich – String Quartet no 8
Dvorak –Three Bagatelles
The Cast Smile or Cry

Enjoy the wonderful voice of Mairi Campbell, Scots Singer of the Year, together with Dave Francis of The Cast, in their magical songs, arranged for the Dante Festival Orchestra, featuring talented young string players from 14 local schools. The Dante Quartet plays chamber music masterpieces by Smetana –“my aim was to depict my life in sounds” - and Shostakovich, whose tragic eighth quartet describes his personal struggle as a composer in Stalin’s Russia. Dvorak’s Bagatelles bring us back to the simple delights of Czech folk music.

Four Violas–Surprise Item
Mozart–String Quintet in G minor
After the powerful, rhythmic opening of Matthew Taylor’s string quartet has subsided into a tender lullaby, the theme of “Intimate Voices” continues with Schumann’s third quartet, written as a musical love letter to his wife Clara.

Mozart’s G minor quintet, one of his greatest masterpieces but also one of his most personal works, moves from hushed intimacy to exuberant joy.

Join us all afterwards for a farewell Cream Tea (by donation) in the St Eustachius Parish Centre, across the road from the Church
