DANTE FESTIVAL SUMMER 2011 - NEWSLETTER Dear Festival followers, We are pleased to announce the dates of our next Dante Summer Festival: 13-17 July 2011. Please do put these dates in your diary, come and join us, and bring along large numbers of friends. We hope that these new dates, slightly later in the summer, will suit you. We will be delighted to see you. Programme planning is nearly done and is looking exciting. In addition to Stoke Climsland, Callington and Trebullett, we will play at two new venues: St Paul’s Church at Yelverton, where there is plenty of space for our Festival Orchestra, and the lovely Old Chapel in Calstock, now a thriving arts centre just next to the great viaduct once painted by Turner. Among our guest artists will be the celebrated Spanish flamenco/jazz guitarist, Eduardo Niebla, with whom we are busy helping to create a new piece for string quartet and guitar. The Dante Festival is a great platform for musical experiments, and we are looking forward to this one. Eduardo will also give a late-night concert and an informal workshop for guitarists. Continuing this theme, we will play some other Spanish music, as well as plenty of Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert. On the food front, expect not only Cornish cream teas, but delicious Spanish tapas. Our other guest artist will be the wonderful German pianist Lars Vogt. Fresh from touring with Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic, he will play a Schumann piano trio and Dvorak’s radiant piano quintet with us in our opening concert. Here is the provisional programme: some details may still change.
