Winner of the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award in 2007 and this year's BBC Music Magazine Award for best change music disc, the Dante Quartet is one of Britain's finest ensembles.  Founded in 1995 at Prussia Cove in Cornwall, the quartet chose Dante's name to reflect the idea of a great journey of discovery.  Renowned for its imaginative programming and its emotionally charged performances, the Dante Quartet is a regular guest at festivals and music societies throughout the UK and abroad, broadcasting on Radio 3 and recording for Hyperion.  They are also quartet-in-residence at King's College, Cambridge.  The Dante Summer Festival in the Tamar Valley was launched in 2004

Tim Boulton
As viola player with the Bellinger String Quartet, Domus piano quartet and the Raphael Ensemble, Tim Boulton has performed, recorded and broadcast in many parts of the globe.  He has been Professor of Viola and Chamber Music at Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London for 17 years.  Inspired equally by performing, conducting and teaching he is currently involved in music education and performance in the South West.  He is Principal Conductor of the South West Sinfonietta, Consultant to Cornwall Music Services, and in 2007 initiated the new international series Concerts Penzance.

Andrew Wilson
Born in 1960, he studied at Trinity College and London University, and since 1992 has been Director of Music at Kelly College, Tavistock.  Andrew started composing very young: his earliest manuscripts date from 1967.  In 2004 the Dante Quartet performed his String Quartet at their first Summer Festival.  This year saw the premieres of Sea Studies and Three Drayton Lyrics in Oxford, and The Celestial Sphere at Denston Festival, Suffolk, where Andrew was composer-in-residence.

The
Goliards are a troupe of wandering musicians performing the folk music of Europe and beyond, taking their material from many differetn traditions including England, France, Spain, Scndinavia and Eastern Europe.  They also include storytelling and puppetry in their performances, and perform not only in England, but at festivals and gatherings all over Europe.

Mike O'Connor
has been working as a musician since the 1970s and a story teller since the 1990s.  Brought up in Wales and London, he lived in Scotland for many years before moving to Cornwall twenty years ago.  He has traveled widely reseraching his matreial. Mike's tales vary from 5 minute fireside tales to epics such as Tristan and Iseult, Imravoe, the Tales of the Holy Rood, and Loki.  Mike is honoured to have been awarded the OBE and has been made a bard of the Gorseth of Cornwall.

Nigel Edwards joins the Dante Quartet for another 'Paint the Music' session, providing a unique opportunity to hear their music and respond using a wide range of art materials.  This year we are once again grateful to DS Smith packaging for their support. Having trained, qualified and worked in graphic design Nigel moved in his twenties to Fine Art and education to share his commitment to enable the abilities we all have - mostly underdeveloped - to come to the fore and flourish.  Nigel recently created the cover for the Dante Quartet's CD: Janacek's string quartets, which was released in June 2007.
